Nightlife in Whistler BC
source: www.whistlerblackcomb.com/todo/apresnightlife/nightlife/index.htm
After apres you may think you're going home to eat and change, maybe grab a quick shower and then spend a night on the town. Thing is, you're tired from a day on the slopes and once you lie down on that sofa, you're done for. Don't go near the sofa! The Whistler nightlife is worth it.
When Dancing is Your Thing
Looking for a well-known dance scene? Head to Garfinkel's where you will recognize everything they play. Attracts a sports bar/hipster/over-20 following with a mixed baggie of indie rock hits, funky classics and hot-steppin' dance tracks. A huge Thursday night institution.
Moe Joe's is a smaller, more intimate form of Garf's - similar clientele and music mix, but the atmosphere is uniquely their own.
Buffalo Bill's attracts an older (over-30s) crowd and also spices up the scene with regular comedy nights and hypnotists.
The Savage Beagle is split-level, allowing you to sit upstairs, smoke a cigar while the dancey-faced people can go to it downstairs.
Tommy Africa's on a Monday night surfs the retro wave, and the fun bunch are often spotted on the speakers.
Young to 21
When it's time to get down and be cool with fly deejays dropping the phatties from all over North America and Europe, you may want to mosey on over to Tommy Africa's and Maxx Fish where things really get going around 11 pm. If it's sly and funky, it's Spincat at the Fish. Hip hop? Yann Solo at Tommy's. Progressive house? Tommy's or the Fish. Soul funk? Check out the Savage Beagle.
Live Tunes
The Boot Pub is your zone if you like live music and up-and-coming bands. All kinds of bands show up here. From thrashy metal to honest-to-goodness three smokin' sets of righteous blues. Also has a somewhat Granola air to it at times. Maybe because of the successful jam nights that attract DeadPhishy types.
Take in the Crabshack on a Sunday night when they have cheap wings, cheap laughs and cheap beer... all accompanied by local Whistler bands.
The Dubh Linn Gate has live traditional and modern Irish music every apres and every night of the week - no cover charge.
Pub Atmosphere
Black's Pub has scotch and beer from the four corners of the world. The Dubh Linn Gate Irish Pub has Whistler's largest draught beer and whiskey selection, along with live music every apres and every night. The Crystal Lounge, Brandy's, Monk's and the Cinnamon Bear Bar swaddle you in comfort, while local lone guitarists play your requests. Le Brasserie is a cozy pub environment in the Village square. A prime people-watching location.
Beyond Apres
Merlin's at the base of Blackcomb is a popular hang out for local mountain staff. Dusty's is its cross-town cousin at the base of Whistler in Creekside. Both of these places have a tendency to go "up the left" when payday lurches into sight. They also throw on a band every now and then. Depending on the time of year the GLC and the Longhorn are hip and happening. They tend to go for the all-out apres, producing those legions of long-distance drinkers that clatter around the village in their ski-boots in the dark.
Mellow
The sophisticated set will want to slink into a wine or cigar bar. A mild and pleasant place is the Mallard Bar in the Chateau Whistler. There's nothing like sipping a martini and posing as posh... unless of course you actually are. If you just want a low-key blue collar drink go to Tapley's. For a local, super-smooth comfortable, lean-on-the-bar-for-a-few type evening, pull up a stool at Citta's Bar (say Cheeetah not Seetas and people will like you better). Located in central Village Square, Citta's is a fantastic location to catch the action. In the summertime, its patio can't be beat.
